XIX century 1866 Netherlands
Rare pair of pastel portraits by Berlin portrait artist Heinrich Siebert sr (1804-1881) who made around 200 pastel portraits between 1843 and 1869, also in the Netherlands, mostly of high placed European bourgeois or nobels with important functions. In Museum Van Loon in Amsterdam portraits by his hand are also to be found.
These portraits depict politician and nobleman Herman Pieter van Karnebeek and his wife Lady Johanna Benjamina van Karnebeek van Rappard. Both are signed and dated 1866. They were 36 and 34 years old at the time.
These portraits come from a private collection, they are in fair condition, some wear and foxing due to damp as often with pastels. They sit in later octagonal frames with heavy old mirroring glass (one break in the glass of the Lady) which makes them almost impossible to photograph. They are more beautiful in real life.
It is preferable to send them without the glass, possibly with the loose frames, to be reframed later, otherwise very risky.
