Oil on canvas, signed and dated W. Geets 1902. Willem Geets (Mechelen, January 20, 1838 - Mechelen, January 19, 1919) was a Belgian painter. He started his artistic studies at the Academy of Mechelen, later at the Academy of Antwerp. In Antwerp he trained with Nicaise De Keyser, one of the most important painters of Flemish Romanticism. He also received lessons from Léon Cogniet in Paris (1861-1863). A beautiful sculpture of a young lady in "Bianco Statuario marble" by Louis-Jacques (Bessègues, Gard 1873 - Montpellier 1943) Signed L Guigues. Louis-Jacques Guigues is a French sculptor , a student of Alfréd Boucher and later of August Rodin. When Boucher won the Salon Award for La Piété Filiale in 1881, he encouraged and inspired a new generation of sculptors, including Guigues, Laure Coutan and Camille Claudel.
